Major paper: “Governance Baseline for Coastal Resource Climate Change Adaptation in the Dominican Republic.”

Mat Rosa holds a BA in Politics from St. Anselm College, an MA in Political Science from the University of Rhode Island (URI), and is candidate for Master of Marine Affairs at URI. He is adjunct faculty of International Development as program director of the study abroad course, Dynamics of Social Change in the Caribbean.

Mat’s research focuses on climate change adaptation governance in coastal, developing states. He recently conducted a research fellowship in the Dominican Republic with the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development. This work gathered baseline data on governance indicators to evaluate adaptation planning for coastal resources.

Before grad school, Mat has led a range of NGOs throughout the world. His experience includes directing an indigenous community development organization in Guatemala, marine protected area in Costa Rica, and a sailing center for underserved communities in Boston.

His diverse work history also includes sailing wooden schooners and racing yachts throughout the Atlantic, running a mountain guide business in the Guatemalan highlands, and banging nails for his family’s construction business. When not in the classroom or researching in the tropics, Mat enjoys fixing up old clunker bicycles, brewing IPAs, and the Boston Bruins.
