There are approximately 600 full-time, tenure-track teaching faculty.

URI offers 94 undergraduate programs, 83 graduate programs, and 16 certificate, non-degree programs.

83% of full-time faculty have doctoral or terminal degrees.

The URI student to faculty ratio is 16:1.

Faculty are the heart of any institution of higher learning, and that is particularly true at the University of Rhode Island. We are proud of the distinguished scholars and researchers who make up our faculty and of the excellence and commitment to their students they demonstrate in the classroom, laboratory, and in their role as mentors and advisors.

Faculty Big Thinkers

Mindy Levine works to decipher how chemical molecules communicate with each other when they are not attached. It’s research that can be applied to a variety of industries, from the development of tools for medical diagnostics to sensors for detecting toxicants in the environment. More»

Rod MatherRod Mather is perhaps best known for his studies of shipwrecks around the world, including Revolutionary War ships in Narragansett Bay, the USS Monitor off the coast of Virginia, the shipwrecks of Bermuda, and a fleet of German World War I ships in the Atlantic Canyons off Virginia. Vinka CraverVinka Oyanedel-Craver dreams of a world where everyone can enjoy safe, clean water.
