Top Ten Financial Aid Tips

At URI, the Office of Enrollment Services is the department in charge of financial aid.

We encourage everyone to file the FAFSA. Should you suffer a job loss or encounter another unforeseen hardship, we may be able to assist you if you have filed the FAFSA.

The earlier you file the FAFSA the better. Be sure to include the URI Federal School Code: 003414. You can file between January 1 and March 1. March 1 is the “Priority Deadline.”

You do not need to wait until you file your taxes to file the FAFSA. You can estimate your income based on last year—any differences will be adjusted after you file your taxes for the current year.

Financial Aid packages are not sent until after you receive an admission decision. Your acceptance letter will therefore not include information about need-based aid.

If you filed the FAFSA and have not received a Financial Aid package from URI by the end of March, call Enrollment Services immediately at 401.874.9500.

Financial Aid is awarded annually, and you must re-apply each year. The amount you receive each year can vary according to your financial need, the number of students with need, and the availability of funds in your family.

URI offers payment plans.

Fees may vary and some are optional. Learn more about fees, which are separate from tuition, room, and board.
