All students at URI are capable of academic success. When students struggle, it’s usually because something is keeping them from doing their best. Sometimes it’s how they manage their workload and time. Other times it’s how well their study activities work for what they are trying to learn. Almost every student, regardless of GPA, will tell you that they would like to be able to do better. Peer academic coaching can help improve your level of academic success.
Just as world class athletes benefit from having coaches observe and advise them, students of all levels of ability benefit from having an academic coach do the same for them. Our peer academic coaches meet on a one-on-one, weekly appointment basis with any student in any course or major, to help them explore how they study, manage their time, deal with test anxiety, take tests, and perform in other areas that contribute to academic success. The peer academic coaches begin by looking at what the student is already doing and experiencing, and then offer ways to improve performance. They will continue to meet with each student for as many weeks as the student needs.
Not sure what your need is? Come set up an appointment and we can help you figure things out!
Course support offered
Students in any course or major can benefit from peer academic coaching. You might choose to focus on how improving your academic success skills and time management could help you in one specific class during your coaching sessions, but most students tend to work on their approach to all courses.
