Jerry Mischak currently teaches sculpture and three-dimensional design in collage and abstraction at the University of Rhode Island. He often encourages his students to work outside, using raw materials and natural elements. Mischak also serves as a senior critic at the Rhode Island School of Design.

He holds a B.F.A. from the Rhode Island School of Design and a M.F.A. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Mischak was awarded the Howard Foundation Fellowship in 2001 and the Rhode Island State Council of the Arts Fellowship in 2003. His work has been reviewed by the New York Times, the New Yorker, Time Out, CNN, the Washington Post and the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.
