Amy Hall of Eileen Fisher to discuss ‘sustainable’ business: Is it possible?

Part of URI Honors Colloquium ‘Not Business As Usual: Business for the Common Good’

KINGSTON, R.I. – Nov. 3, 2023 – Social consciousness advisor Amy Hall, of iconic fashion brand Eileen Fisher, will discuss the feasibility of “sustainable” business at the 2023 University of Rhode Island Honors Colloquium Tuesday, Nov. 14.

Hall joined the Eileen Fisher brand 30 years ago, where she founded and led what became known as the brand’s Social Consciousness initiative. In that time, Hall created the company’s signature philanthropic programs addressing women’s empowerment, developed the company’s human rights work, advanced business models to reduce textile waste, led the company’s transition to become a Certified B Corporation, and championed the company’s shift to organic, recycled, and regenerative fibers.

Hall will speak at 7 p.m. at Edwards Hall on the Kingston Campus, as part of the University’s fall Honors Colloquium, “Not Business As Usual: Business for the Common Good.” The talk will also be streamed live (video links are available the day of each event, at the link above).

She has also served as a steadfast brand ambassador and thought leader on issues of “sustainable” apparel and ethical business. Today, Hall serves as the social consciousness strategic advisor for Eileen Fisher Inc., as well as the sustainability strategic advisor for the Eileen Fisher Foundation. She also owns and operates a mission-driven independent bookstore, Hudson Valley Books for Humanity, in her hometown of Ossining, N.Y.

Hall holds an MBA from Green Mountain College and has served as advisory board chair for Social Accountability International, as a development council member for Future Fit, and as a Good Housekeeping Sustainable Innovation Awards judge. She has also appeared in numerous publications and programs, including National Public Radio, The Atlantic, Business of Fashion, CBS-TV, and more. She has been recognized as a Power Women award honoree, a U.N. Women Champion of Change, and a Girl Scouts of Greater New York Woman of Distinction, among others.

The URI Honors Colloquium is free and open to the public. Hosted by URI’s Honors Program, this is the University’s premier lecture series and marks the centennial of the College of Business. Lectures will be held Tuesday evenings through Dec. 5, and are also available online. Learn more about the fall colloquium. Register for updates here or email urihonors@etal.uri.edu.
