Fitness & Wellness is dedicated to offering programs for the students of URI, but we are also committed to offering programs that are suited for the Rec Pass, Fitwell and Platinum members. We value your participation in our program and want to continue to grow our program offerings to aid in the well-being of the URI staff and promote a healthy campus. Various special events, including competitions, themed classes, incentive programs and fitness challenges are delivered at different times of the year to keep students and members engaged and motivated. Specialty/Custom classes and programs are available upon request. FALL FRENZY: Join the 2016 Fitness Fall Frenzy at the Anna Fascitelli Fitness & Wellness Center and the Mackal Field House for new programs and events. We are highlighting all we have to offer from the Fitness & Wellness program. You will experience the Wellness Resource Center, Personal Trainers, fitness challenges, group exercise classes and more. Stop by our fitness facilities and explore all that we have to offer.
BABY BOOMER FITNESS: A, B, C’S Classes: September 8th. Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:45 – 7:30 a.m. in Tootell Studio. This class is designed for people age 55 and up and will focus on Agility, Balance, Coordination & Strength training. Free to Rec and Platinum members. $5.00 per class non-members, class pass for sale at the Rec Service Center.
THIRSTY THURSDAYS: Come and join us on Thursdays from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. at the Wellness Resource Center located in the Anna Fascitelli Fitness & Wellness Center for FREE smoothies, valuable information on nutrition, health, wellness and more.
RHODY REC RUNNING: Beginning September 9th for the fall semester, come join us every Friday at 5:00 p.m. for a group run leaving from the Mackal Field House.
The groups primary purpose and vision is to allow runners of all endurance levels, paces, distances and running experience to run together in a non-competitive atmosphere and to get to know each other through a variety of social activities. Registration is not required but the group leaves Mackal promptly at 5:00 p.m. A great way to start training for Campus Rec’s Rhody Halloween 5K.
RHODY COMBAT: Foam fighting power hour held in the Tootell Studio every Thursday evening, 5:30 p.m. Beginning September 8th throughout the Fall semester. Look out for special events including make your own foam making day and tournaments.
ALL IN EXPRESSO CHALLENGE: January – December 2016, Don’t miss out in joining the URI expresso team and ride us into the championship. The most miles completed on a team wins a trophy and t-shirts. All you have to do is sign-up for an account on expresso.com and join the URI team. If you are already a user, just select the ALL IN Challenge and join the URI team.
Upon request a workshop can be designed to meet your group’s interest in health, fitness or wellness. Topic may include: how to eat healthy, how to start an exercise program, how to fit exercise into your busy life, the seven dimensions of wellness, how do I know I’m at risk and much more. URI Employee Program Icon is a symbol that will be used to identify: Fitness & Wellness programs, group classes, events, or specials that would be of interest to individuals who work or are affiliated with the University work force.
The icon identifies programs based on:
- Program Content
- Topic of Interest
- Class level is appropriate for fitness level
- The time of the event, class or program
- Length of the class, event or program
- Members can attend free of charge
