Fitness & Wellness is committed to providing quality programs for all the members of Campus Recreation: Students, Faculty, Staff, Alumni and Affiliates.

Fitness & Wellness is dedicated to offering programs for the students of URI, but we are also committed to offering programs that are suited for the Rec Pass, Fitwell and Platinum members.  We value your participation in our program and want to continue to grow our program offerings to aid in the wellbeing of the URI staff and promote a healthy campus.  We encourage you visit our additional web links including personal training, group exercise, special programs and events to view the comprehensive list of programs we have to offer.

HEALTHY MIND, HEALTHY BODY: Monday Nights, November 3rd, 10th, 17th & 24th, 6:30 p.m. at the Fascitelli Fitness & Wellness Center
A 4 week wellness workshop in which together we will talk about topics including: nutrition, fitness, body image, mindfulness, and stress management and come up with ways in which you can become stronger in those areas. The program is designed to give you the tools to better take care of yourself and live a more balanced lifestyle both physically and emotionally.

DREAM BIG WEEK:  September 15th – 19th
Mackal Fitness Center & Fascitelli Fitness & Wellness Center

Sample fit food options provided by URI Dining Services & tackle nutrition topics.  You can also sign up for 15 minute personal or small group nutrition coaching sessions during the event.  Stop by the URI Wellness Resource Center every other Tuesday at anytime between 5:30 – 7:00 p.m.  

November 4th:  Meatless Monday – Explore healthy alternatives for vegetarians and anyone looking to eat some meals without animal protein.

November 18th:  Comfort Foods – Pick up some modified recipes for your favorite feel-good foods and learn how to enjoy the originals in moderation.

Fascitelli Wellness Resource Center, 5:30- 7:00 p.m. for a free smoothie and information to support your wellness journey.
Start your weekend on a healthy note!  Sip on a free smoothie while you learn about various wellness topics.

Free for URI Students, FitWell & Platinum Members.

November 13th:  Tobacco – Tobacco, Chew, Vap (E-cig) . . . it’s still all nicotine.

November 20th:  Stress – Let us help you work it out.


Various special events, including competitions, themed classes, incentive programs and fitness challenges are delivered at different times of the year to keep students and members engaged and motivated. Specialty/Custom classes and programs are available upon request.  Please contact Leticia Orozco at for more information on how to schedule, develop and offer a program for your group.

Mackal Fitness & Fascitelli Center, Free with no registration – Complete the challenge or challenges and WIN PRIZES!   

  • Put Play Back in your Day:   September 16th, 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.
    Who says you have to stop doing fun things to stay in shape just because you’re and adult now?  NOT Campus REC! The challenge will include hula hoops, jump ropes, monkey bars and hop scotch.
  • Fall Frenzy Expresso Bike ChallengeOctober 7th, 8th, 14th, 15th, 21st, 22nd, 28th & 29th, Fascitelli Center
    Join the URI Expresso bike team and move our University to the top of the leader board.  The fitness center attendants will help you create an account and teach you how to ride the bike.  Sign up with a fitness attendant and get a participation prize!
  • Turkey Burner:  November 18th, 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.
    Are you ready to burn off some turkey this year?  Try our Fitness Challenge and complete 30 power jacks, 20 push-ups, 20 mountain climbers and a 1 minute plank.  Take it to the next level and do this workout daily over Thanksgiving Break, post your pics or video on Instagram @uricampusrec #uritukeyburner.
  • Refrain from the Gain:
    Most Americans gain 5-7 pounds from Thanksgiving to New Years Day.  This year make a preemptive strike to Refrain from the Holiday Weight Gain!  Weigh In with from November 19th to November 25th and if you maintain this weight by your Final Weigh In from January 20th to 28th you will EARN A PRIZE!!
    EXTRA Incentive ALL Multi Session Personal Training Packages purchased from November 19 to December 19 receive ONE MORE SESSION FREE!

FITNESS CENTER THEME DAYS:  Put a little spice in your regular workout.  Be inspired by our themes, have fun and take your workout to the next level.

GIVING BACK WEEK:  November 16th – 26th
- November 16th – 26th:  Donate a non-perishable food item anytime during this week at the Fascitelli Fitness & Wellness Center or Mackal Rec Service Center and receive 1 Punch Pass or 1 Body Composition Pass.  All donations will be given to the Rhody Outpost Food Pantry which helps supports URI Students and the Community.
- November 17th:  Fascitelli Wellness Resource Center, 7:30 p.m.  Learn to crochet or bring your experience – all are welcome!  Squares will be donated to be stitched together to make blankets for a local Senior Center.
- November 18th:  Fascitelli Wellness Resource Center, 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.  Write a letter to our Armed Forces, thanking them for their services and dedication especially during the holiday season.


Upon request a workshop can be designed to meet your group’s interest in health, fitness or wellness.  Topic may include: how to eat healthy, how to start an exercise program, how to fit exercise into your busy life, the seven dimensions of wellness, how do I know I’m at risk and much more. Ladies Lift: Fascitelli Seminar Room, 10:00 – 11:00 a.m.  Limited to the first 25 participants.
This one hour workshop will reshape the way you think about women, weights and body image.   It will provide you with the link between weight training and women.  It will help you overcome your fears, clear up cultural misconceptions and debunk myths, destroy social notions of what a woman should look like, educate you about proper form, teach you about the importance of exercise and demonstrate how a workout can be enjoyable, effective and empowering.

Presenter:  Leticia D. Orozco M.S., CPT, Coordinator of Fitness & Wellness and Christina Antonelli-Savoie B.S, CPT, Fitness & Wellness Specialist.

Latin Dance: Fascitelli Group Exercise Studio, 11:00 – 11:50 a.m.    Limited to the first 25 participants.
Explore the Latin culture, its music, rhythms, and this unique dance style class incorporate an introduction to Salsa, Bachata, Merengue, and Cha-cha.  It is a fun, energetic, cardio class that provides technique and easy Latin dance moves.  This workout is great for all levels of fitness!

Energy into Action “Let’s Stand Together and Put our Energy Into Action to Make a Difference in the World.”
Fascitelli Seminar Room, 12:30 – 1:30 p.m.  Limited to the first 25 participants.
Energy into Action is a women empowerment support group program targeted towards women of color in a college campus or high school setting. Energy into Actions mission is to encourage women to be more aware of their health and make positive lifestyle changes to help make an impact in the world. Energy into Action discuses a variety of topics that include: Body Image, Nutrition, Stress Management, Leadership, Time Management, and Fitness and Wellness. After each round table discussion the women then attend a group exercise class that complements the topic. The classes include; Zumba, BodyPump Yoga, Core Conditioning, and a Hip hop Dance class.

Zumba®:  Fascitelli Group Exercise Studio, 2:00 – 2:45 p.m.  Limited to the first 25 participants.
This energizing celebration of movements inspired from different cultures and made easily accessible to participants with little or no dance experience.  So, ditch the workout, join the party! Zumba® classes feature exotic rhythms set to high-energy Latin and international beats. As you lose yourself to the music, you will sweat yourself into shape and open your eyes to a cultural interpretation of music, movement and exercise. All levels welcome! Please wear athletic clothing and bring water.

African Dance:   Fascitelli Mind/Body Studio, 3:00 – 4:00 p.m.   Limited to the first 25 participants.
Let go of any preconceived notions of what it means to be “a dancer,” and enter a culture where dance is a holistic activity that integrates physical, emotional, ideological, and spiritual aspects of one’s own life and community. Explore grounded, rhythmic movements to West African Drum music. Let the beat of the drums move your body and soul. You will learn basic technique, isolations, & movement phrases while building stamina, core strength, and flexibility. All levels welcome! Please wear athletic clothing and bring water.
