Special Programs, Events & Workshops



Fitness & Wellness is dedicated to offering programs for the students of URI, but we are also committed to offering programs that are suited for the Rec Pass, Fitwell and Platinum members.  We value your participation in our program and want to continue to grow our program offerings to aid in the well-being of the URI staff and promote a healthy campus.  We encourage you visit our additional web links including personal training, group exercise, special programs and events to view the comprehensive list of programs we have to offer.

FitWell Program Calendar: September – December


Various special events, including competitions, themed classes, incentive programs and fitness challenges are delivered at different times of the year to keep students and members engaged and motivated. Specialty/Custom classes and programs are available upon request.  Please contact Leticia Orozco at for more information on how to schedule, develop and offer a program for your group.

FREE BODY COMPOSITION WEEK: September 14th – 18th, Anna Fascitelli Fitness Center and Mackal Field House.    Come drop in at posted times, no appointment is needed to find out your lean body mass and body fat percentages.  Assessments takes 5 minutes, please see flyer for drop in times and requirements.

employee_logoYOGA ON THE QUADTuesdays, September 15th – October 27th, 5:00 – 6:00 p.m.  Experience an outdoor setting, fresh air and live music.  Don’t forget to bring your towel.  Zarhie will lead you through a 1 hour of yoga.

THIRSTY THURSDAYS Join us every other Thursday at Anna Fascitelli Fitness & Wellness Center from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. in the Wellness Resource Center for a FREE Smoothie and some Wellness tips and topics.

employee_logoRHODY REC RUNNING:  Beginning September 25th for the fall semester, come join us every Friday at 5:00 p.m. for a group run leaving from the Mackal Field House.
The groups primary purpose and vision is to allow runners of all endurance levels, paces, distances and running experience to run together in a non-competitive atmosphere and to get to know each other through a variety of social activities.  Registration is not required but the group leaves Mackal promptly at 5:00 p.m.   A great way to start training for Campus Rec’s Rhody Halloween 5K.

MICROFIT® ASSESSMENT:  Wednesday, September 30th – October 8th, 2:00 – 7:00 p.m.  Anna Fascitelli Fitness & Wellness Center.  Assessments will measure blood pressure, body fat, cardiovascular, flexibility and strength and this test is FREE!!!! 

NATIONAL FITNESS DAY:  Wednesday, September 30th, 12 N – 6:00 p.m.  Mackal Fitness Center and Anna Fascitelli Fitness Center.
National Fitness and Wellness Day is the perfect way to challenge yourself and win a custom URI Fitness and Wellness T-shirt.  In the Spirit of being strong, we are challenging you to lift 2180 lbs in total.  You can pick your starting weight and we will count your reps!!!  FREE t-shirt for participants or until we run out, so don’t miss out!!

PULL UP CLINIC:  Thursday, October 1st, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. and 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.  Mackal Cardio Center TRX Pull-up Station.  No appointment needed.

LADIES LIFTOctober 2nd; 9th; 16th; 23rd; 30th, Mackal Weight Room, 9:00 – 10:30 a.m.    Weights are just not for boys, however the weight room will be open for ladies only.  Certified Personal Trainers will be available to guide and teach you basic lifts with proper form without the onlookers on men.

P-KNOT:  Wednesday, October 14th, Anna Fascitelli Fitness & Wellness Center, 12:00 – 6:00 p.m.  Love your body and roll out on the P-Knot!  Learn about Myofascial release and more ways to take care of your body to better future your workouts.  Instructed by our certified trainers.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS Campus Recreation comes together with the Women’s Center to celebrate Domestic Violence Awareness Week.  In each evening Yoga session the week of October 19th – 22nd, we will be bringing an intention to each class to recognize this cause.  On October 20th a special candle light yoga vigil will be offered at 7:00 p.m. in the Mind/Body Studio in the Anna Fascitelli Center.

employee_logoRHODY HALLOWEEN 5K Saturday, October 31st.  Campus Rec first 5K race that starts on the Quad at 10:00 a.m.  Come dressed in a Halloween costume.  T-shirts and prizes will be given.   $15 for URI Students, $20 for Members and $25 for Community.   Registration on line or in person at Anna Fascitelli Welcome Center or Mackal Rec Service Center.  Prior to October 1st,  all participants receive the URI Student rate $15.

GIVE BACK WEEK Monday, November 16th – Thursday, November 19th at the Anna Fascitelli Fitness Center and Mackal Cardio Center.  Participate in a week of events that will help you give back.

  • 11/16 – 11/20:  Donate a non-perishable food item anytime this week at the Mackal Field House or Anna Fascitelli Center to help others in need during this holiday season.  All donations support the Rhody Outpost Food Pantry.  With your donation you will help us support our URI Students and Community.
  • Give the gift of Love and Surprise!  GLOW X CLASSES at Anna Fascitelli Fitness Center.  Please bring $5 to participate in the glow classes.  All donations will be used to buy toys for underprivileged Rhode Island elementary students as a part of the NEA Gingerbread Express program.
    • 11/16:  GLOW Yoga, AF Mind Body Studio, 7:15 p.m.
    • 11/17:  GLOW Spin, AF Spin Studio, 4:00 p.m.
    • 11/18:  GLOW Zumba, AF Spin Studio, 5:30 p.m. 11/19: 
  • The Great American Smokeout, Learn about how to quit smoking, smokeless tobacco, dip and others.  The event is a cooperative effort from URI Campus Recreation, Health Services and The American Society of Health-Systems Pharmacy.  Don’t forget it is also Thirsty Thursday so don’t miss out on free Smoothies.   Anna Fascitelli Fitness Center 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.

employee_logoREFRAIN FROM THE HOLIDAY GAINMost Americans gain 5-7 pounds from Thanksgiving to New Years Day. This year make a preemptive strike on the holiday weight gain. Your goal is to maintain your body weight within one pound of your initial weigh in. Make sure you weigh in with a fitness center attendant. *All weights and emails are kept confidential.

Stop by Mackal or Anna Fascitelli Fitness and Wellness center to compete in this competition! Initial Weigh In:  November 16th – 25th with the final Weigh In:  January 25th – 31st.  Those who pass the weigh in will recieve a prize!

STRESS FREE DECEMBER:  December 11th – 17th, Don’t let December stress you out, we have events that will help you relax.  There will be therapeutic chair massages, yoga and incentive programs offered at Fascitelli and Mackal.  Move into finals week with a brand new approach.


Upon request a workshop can be designed to meet your group’s interest in health, fitness or wellness.  Topic may include: how to eat healthy, how to start an exercise program, how to fit exercise into your busy life, the seven dimensions of wellness, how do I know I’m at risk and much more.
