Recreational Sailing

The URI Sailing Center is open to the general public as well as the University community. The annual membership fee for URI students 18 years or older is $150 and for non-students, $175.  All recreational sailors must successfully pass an on-the-water “Skippers Test” prior to being cleared to use the boats.  Members who have qualified for a “Skippers Card” are entitled to unlimited use of the Techs or Flying Juniors during recreational sailing hours at no additional charge.

For racing enthusiasts, club races are held during the summer on Thursday evenings from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. beginning June 19, 2015. Boats are available on a first-come basis.

Spring 2015

March 27th – May 16th

Friday: 2:00 – 6:00 p.m.
Saturday: 12 Noon – 5:00 p.m.
Sunday: 12 Noon – 5:00 p.m.

Summer 2015

May 18th – September 5th

Monday – Thursday 12 Noon – 7:00 p.m.
Friday – Sunday 12 Noon – 6:00 p.m.

Fall 2015

September 3rd – November 1st

Friday: 2:00 – 6:00 p.m.
Saturday: 12 Noon – 5:00 p.m.
Sunday: 12 Noon – 5:00 p.m.

 

Fees:

$150.00 for URI students
$175.00 for non-students

Please Note:

During weekday hours, sailing classes have priority use of all boats and equipment. Spring sailing requires lifejackets and wetsuits are strongly advised due to cold water temperatures. All recreational sailing is subject to cancellation based on current weather conditions.
