Youth Health and PA Studies

According to the Centers for Disease Control, due to the child obesity epidemic 1 in 4 children are overweight and obese. In response to the obesity epidemic, there is a growing trend of youth fitness. Parents and caregivers are currently searching for programming to support developing healthy eating and exercise habits in children outside of school. Many of these programs take place before school, after school and camps that take place during school vacations.

The Youth Health and PA Studies track focuses on training students to help children develop healthy habits. Students in the track will finish their Kinesiology degree with an internship in a youth fitness setting, e.g. YMCA, Boys and Girls Club, Gymnastics Center, or Dance Studio. Students in the track will not need to take and pass the Praxis I exams, PLT 2 exams or PLT Content exams to complete the program.
