Eric is a graduate student in Speech-Language Pathology at URI. He earned his BA and graduated from the Chinese Language Flagship Program in 2015. While he was an undergraduate he worked as the Programming & Outreach Intern for Flagship and was one of the first student ambassadors. He has also tutored for the Chinese Flagship Immersion Program and taught a pronunciation workshop as a TA for CHN 101 students. In 2015, he completed an independent study to research tone acquisition in Chinese second-language learners across proficiency levels. He attended summer study abroad programs in Hangzhou and Shanghai, and completed his Capstone year at Tianjin Normal University in Tianjin. Currently, he is involved in a project to translate resources on speech and language disorders from English into Chinese in order to help spread awareness and educate Chinese speakers about language development and disorders.
After finishing his master’s program, Eric plans on specializing in bilingual treatment of speech and language disorders. In the future, he would like to start an international program for speech-language pathology to train more multilingual speech-language pathologists (SLP’s) in America and to train SLP’s from countries in which the field is not yet well-developed.
