General Information, Policies and Procedures

Students must have their own instruments before they can begin lessons. Instruments can be rented or purchased at any of several music stores throughout the state. Students are responsible for the purchase of those books and supplies required by the teacher, and for the repair and maintenance of their instruments.

No lessons maybe given using the university facilities except those authorized by the Music Department Chair or the Coordinator of the Community Music Program. Proper registration in the program assures everyone concerned that we will provide the best possible instruction with approved teachers.

In order to create the most supportive environment for our teachers, parents are asked not to attend lessons unless invited by the teacher.

Lessons may not be cancelled except in unavoidable circumstances.

Teachers will be unable to make up any more than TWO lessons per semester when 24 hour notice has been received.

If you must cancel a lesson, please call the teacher at their home or cell phone no later than the day before the lesson.

If you cannot attend a lesson and do not give 24 hour notice, that lesson will not be made up.

It is impossible to contact student teachers during their school day, so please do not rely on the office staff to notify them of late cancellations. We will post a note as a courtesy if we are in the office, but that will not be considered sufficient notice to warrant a make -up lesson.

Make sure to obtain the teacher’s home/cell phone number(s) and e-mail address immediately to avoid problems. Please make sure the teacher knows the best way to reach you. Any lesson missed by the teacher will be made up.

If you are late for a lesson, the teacher will be expected to remain at the arranged location for the entire length of time so that the student may still have part of a lesson, if possible.

The teachers will be paid for any lesson where a student does not show up, or when sufficient notice of cancellation is not given.

We expect students, and the parents of young children in the program, to make a commitment if they are to study a musical instrument or take voice lessons.

Practicing at home each day is essential. Please check with the teacher to determine the appropriate amount of practice time.

Students are expected to show up for all lessons faithfully, and to give their music study the same priority as their school work and sports. No refunds will be given for students who lose interest or fail to complete lessons except in case of illness or unique circumstance.

Once we have received your form and payment we will have a teacher contact you to schedule lessons. We will hold your check until lessons have been scheduled and return it to you if scheduling is impossible. *Instruction may begin at any time during the session -use the table on the rates and fees page to determine your payment according to your starting week.
