Informal education program for diverse RI youth audiences that combine hands-on education and the development of life skills through an extensive 4-H volunteer system, schools, community organizations and military partners.

Research and outreach projects associated with management of invasive species. Current projects include management of the lily leaf beetle with parasitic wasps, and biological control of swallow-worts with the moth, Hypena opulenta. URI undergraduates participate in research in the summer, and throughout the school year.

Food Safety Education Program

A variety of information and publications available for everyone from consumers to food service employees.

Integrated Pest Management Program

Landscape IPM and biological control implementation in communities; IPM implementation in specialty crops; IPM support for pest diagnostic facilities.

Master Gardener Program

Education on sustainable horticulture topics to volunteer educators; volunteer community projects throughout RI.

Northeast Small Ruminant Parasite Control

Integrated small ruminant parasite control topics to farmers, veterinarians and Extension colleagues throughout Northeast.

Pesticide Safety Education Program

Year-round program on pesticide applicator training and testing for private and commercial pesticide applicators (regulatory requirement) in cooperation with RI DEM.

Plant Protection Clinic

Diagnose insect and disease problems for landscapers (33%), homeowners (33%) and commercial growers (33%)

School Garden Initiative

Harnesses children’s enthusiasm for the natural world​, foster environmental awareness, ecological literacy and wellness, and bolster students’ understanding of nutrition and food access through outdoor engagement and applied learning in a “living laboratory” – the school garden.
