Our three major functions are Planning, Project Management, and the promotion of Sustainability.
The CP&D office facilitates comprehensive physical master planning, project feasibility studies, and the development of project budgets and funding strategies. We oversee the physical development of all four University of Rhode Island campuses (Kingston, Providence, the Bay Campus, and W. Alton Jones) from our office on the Kingston Campus. Our work includes planning the University’s five-year Capital Improvement Plan, managing the design of new and renovated university facilities, landscape planning, and the enhancement and allocation of campus space.
In 2010, Campus Planning & Design expanded its services to include the URI Sustainability Office, the organizational arm of the President’s Council on Sustainability. This office manages “green” programs and assists in establishing policies related to the Strategic Plan for Campus Sustainability. This plan will guide the integration of sustainability into the culture of the University and allow our campuses to serve as models of sustainable practices and principles for URI students, faculty, staff, and the local community.
