Gallien joins the University from Berea College in Berea, Ky., where he was an academic success associate. Before Berea College, Gallien was with Eastern Kentucky University from 2010 to 2016, first as director of the EKU Cultural Center, then assistant dean of students and diversity initiatives in addition to his role as center director. Earlier Gallien was associate chaplain and director of interfaith ministry at Loyola University in New Orleans from 2001 to 2010.
In all of his academic positions, Gallien took the lead in creating an open and welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff and community members of diverse backgrounds. His work helped to build and foster each school’s diversity strategic plan.
In addition to his years of experience in higher education, Gallien has a rich background of hands-on work and advocacy. Before Loyola University, he had been the director of Big Brothers Big Sisters Collaborative for five years, an outreach worker, youth specialist, teacher, day counselor and clinical associate.
Gallien earned a Master’s of Pastoral Studies (MPS) from Loyola University in New Orleans and a Bachelor of Science in Education from Grambling State in Louisiana. Throughout his career, Gallien has received numerous awards from community organizations, programs and student groups.
