This award honors students who exemplify the qualities of compassion and service according to Gandhi’s philosophy, “the best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” The purpose of the award is to inspire future generations to follow the examples of Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. whose lives exemplified compassion and selfless service as they achieved their goals of peace, freedom, equality, and justice for all.
