History of the Safe Zone Project

The URI Safe Zone Project began out of a growing need on campus for recognized safe spaces for the URI LGBTQ+ Community. Initially starting as a simple sticker for one to show their support, the project expanded to become a two hour workshop and certification to create a consistency among it’s members. Now, Safe Zone members are expected to have a basic understanding of LGBTQ+ issues and experiences in order to be well equipped in supporting LGBTQ+ students.  For more on the current day Safe Zone Project, click here.
