About Us

students outside Browning HallThe Department of Housing and Residential Life (HRL) oversees approximately 6,200 students residing within 21 undergraduate residence halls, three undergraduate apartment complexes, and one graduate apartment complex. For freshmen, our housing opportunities include numerous Living and Learning Communities.

Housing and Residential Life is proud to be one of the largest student employers at the University of Rhode Island. Our undergraduate Resident Advisors (RAs) and Resident Academic Mentors (RAMs) are among the University’s finest student leaders. All Housing and Residential Life employees seek to provide our residents and campus colleagues with the highest degree of quality and commitment to service and learning.

Public Safety is a top concern for URI. Housing and Residential Life partners closely with campus police and the emergency medical response team to ensure the safety of all residents.  Fire drills are held twice each semester, and URI even has its own night watch that helps build a culture of trust between students and law enforcement.
