Special Room Registration Instructions

Building Configuration and Group Size Requirements

To help ensure that eligible residents have compatible roommates, suitemates and apartment-mates, they are strongly encouraged to register for housing in the Residence Halls, Suites and Apartments as a member of a group. To do so, the total group size (you plus your other group members) must equal exactly the available capacity of the Room, Suite or Apartment of interest to the group. Following are the total group size options:

Residents On Exchange

Residents currently on exchange
Eligible residents WHO ARE currently on National or International Exchange, and wish to live in one of our residences for Fall – Spring Academic Year Housing must complete all four steps of the Room Registration Process by the stated deadlines. These residents can complete all four steps of the Room Registration process ONLINE, or have a friend or family member complete the steps for them. These residents may register as an individual, or as part of a roommate group. All housing registration policies and deadlines apply to these residents.

Residents who will be on exchange
Current residents WHO WILL BE on National or International Exchange for the upcoming Fall semester, should complete Step 1 and Step 2 of the Returning Resident Room Registration Process to request housing for the Spring semester. These students will be assigned to a room on a space available basis and at the discretion of the Department of Housing and Residential Life in January. Building, room and roommate information will be available for residents during the third week in January. These residents should respond YES to the question, on their Housing Application, for Exchange Students who are seeking housing for the Spring semester.

Residents Wanting to Live in a Returning Resident LLC

Eligible residents of the Residence Halls, Suites or Apartments who would like to reside in the Athletics, Honors, GELS or Sustainability LLC for Returning Residents for the Fall 2018 – Spring 2019 academic year should contact that LLC’s administrative office for information on their registration process. Please note that students who are selected to reside in the Athletics, GELS and Sustainability LLC must pay the Housing Deposit by March 23, 2018, and submit a completed Housing Application by 11:59 pm on March 27, 2018, while students who are selected to reside in the Honors LLC must pay a $200 Housing Deposit and submit a completed Housing Application by 11:59 pm on the advertised date in March 2018. Both the Housing Deposit and the Housing Application must be submitted ONLINE. Those eligible residents who are accepted to reside in one of these LLCs for the Fall 2018 – Spring 2019 academic year will NOT be allowed to participate in the general Room Selection Process. However, these residents may participate in the next available Room Change request period. Also, eligible residents who are on Exchange for the Fall 2018 semester cannot reserve a room in their LLC for the Spring 2019 semester. Winter Break / J-Term Housing

Academic Year Housing includes housing during the Fall and Spring semesters of an academic year, but does not include housing during the Winter Break / J-Term. All Fall semester residents of a URI Residence Hall, Suite or Apartment, who wish to reside in the room to which they were assigned for the Fall semester during the J-Term, must request to do so by completing the Winter Break / J-Term Housing application. Extra fees may apply.
