In his Aug. 8 Commentary piece (“Altering the marriage ‘ecosystem’), Mark Regnerus claims the legalization of same-sex marriage will “alter the marriage ecosystem.” The result? Children suffer, the birth rate falls, and government infiltrates family life.
Regnerus makes several unfounded assumptions about the meaning and purpose of marriage and family. We want to offer a more accurate sociological understanding of the resiliency and strength of these institutions.
