The support from the URI Center of Humanities for the project “Purchase of Orchestral Conducting Critical Editions/Music Scores for Study” will enable Dr. Luis Víquez, Director of Orchestral Studies and Music Director of the University of Rhode Island Symphony, to acquire critical editions of orchestral and operatic scores for individual study and also for conducting at upcoming professional development fellowships. The cost of such materials of study is typically high; however, having access to authoritative editions enables orchestral conductors to further study canonical orchestral and operatic literature, diversify their repertoire, and deepen their understanding of the role of orchestral music as a pivotal element of research in the field of humanities.
