As Director of Graduate Recruitment and Diversity Initiatives at the University of Rhode Island, Dr. Alycia Mosley Austin plans and implements recruitment initiatives that will attract and provide support for a diverse population of graduate students, including attendance at regional and national conferences. She advises faculty and staff on best practices in recruitments, collects and analyzes data on graduate admissions and enrollment, and administers scholarship and fellowship programs for graduate students. Her service on several campus-wide committees connects the diversity activities of the Graduate School with the greater mission of the university.
Dr. Austin also serves as the Executive Coordinator of the Interdisciplinary Neuroscience Program (INP) at URI, which offers MS and PhD degrees, in addition to post-baccalaureate certificates. She provides leadership at all levels of the program from instruction, curricular affairs, admissions, advising, and managing the activities of the INP Executive Committee . Her responsibilities include ensuring communication and cooperation with faculty, staff, and administrators across the six colleges and 12 departments that comprise the INP.
Dr. Austin holds a bachelor’s degree in neuroscience from Brown University and a doctorate in neuroscience from the University of California, San Diego. She is a member of the Society for Neuroscience (SfN) and the Society for Advancing Chicanos and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS).
