January 5 – 17, 2017

Students will gain an understanding of the stories, characters, and significance of Ancient Roman Myth through careful consideration of Ancient Roman literature, archaeological sites, and ancient art. View a full description of the itinerary here!

Academics:

Students will earn 3 URI credits for CLA 396: Myths of Rome or CLA 497: Directed Study. Students enrolled in CLA 497 will be required to establish a project prior to departure and do some preliminary research to be augmented and completed while in Rome.

Course work will be supplemented with cultural activities and excursions including visits to the Colosseum, Sistine Chapel, St. Peter’s Basilica, city guided tours and museum visits.

Location:

Rome is an eclectic culture of a busy cosmopolitan city that reveres its past. The past and present harmoniously existing within steps of each other best defines Rome culture: art created by the masters during the Renaissance and Baroque periods coexists with modern-day pieces in art museums and galleries throughout the city; modern work buildings are steps away from historic monuments, like the Colosseum and the Roman Forum. Food is an integral part of the culture in Rome, with dishes that are full of flavor and reflective of old Roman traditions.

Accommodations and Meals:

Students will stay in triple-occupancy rooms while in Italy. Continental breakfast and dinner will be provided. Students will be responsible for purchasing their own lunch.
