To educate yourself about the study away experience or begin the application process, follow the steps below.

STEP 1 - Explore Your Options

Explore your options in URIAbroad and attend a Study Abroad Information Session.

Study Abroad Information Sessions are offered throughout the semester. View the flyer for specific times. No registration required.

Walk-In Advising is available Monday –Thursday, 9:30am-3:30pm at the International Center.

STEP 2 - Setup your URIAbroad Profile

URI Abroad LoginURIAbroad is a web-based advising and application software that will guide you through the global education process:

  • If you are a URI student, please use your e-Campus username and Sakai password when logging in.
  • If you are not a URI student, please create a profile as a first-time user.  Your login credentials will be sent to you via e-mail.

Step 3 - Make an Advising Appointment

Individual advising sessions prepare students for a broad range of factors that are aligned and related to their off-campus experience.

If you are participating in the programs in Group A, you are required to schedule an advising appointment.  If you are participating in a program in Group B, scheduling an appointment is optional.

All appointments are scheduled through URIAbroad Staff page

Important – You should meet with your academic advisor(s) to ensure that your study away program is aligned with your degree requirements and graduation plans.

STEP 4 - Apply to a Program

After attending a Group Advising Session and setting up the URIAbroad account, all students must complete an URIAbroad application.  This application will consists of questionnaires, recommendations, and other documents.  Certain programs will also include additional materials.

  • If you are applying to a program provider, you will need to complete an application corresponding to that program provider.

STEP 5 - Commit to a Program and Complete Post-Decision Process

Once committed to a program, complete all items in your URIAbroad account under Post-decision phase.  We understand that plans may change; however, be aware that you will be bound to the URI Study Abroad Withdrawal Policy once committed. For that reason, please inform yourself about the withdrawal policies and penalties associated in your selected program. Review the links below for information concerning the URI Study Abroad Withdrawal Policy:

  1. URI Study Abroad Withdrawal Policy
  2. For a study abroad provider’s withdrawal policy, visit each program site.

Discuss this matter with your URI International Education Advisor and/or your study abroad program provider.

STEP 6 - Attend the Mandatory Pre-departure Orientation

Attend the Pre-Departure Orientation where you will be informed of topics pertaining to health and safety tips, preparing for your departure, currency conversions, cross-cultural survival skills, transfer credit process and returning from abroad, etc.

A schedule will be posted in the Upcoming Events page.
