At URI we have a distributed Information Technology (IT) support system: ITS, the central computing group consisting of Media and Technology Services (MTS) and University Computing systems (UCS), and technical support staff in almost all colleges, campuses, and many administrative units. The challenge in such a system is coordination.
To meet that challenge, we formed the University Technology Network (UTN), a group comprised of staff members from both areas. The group meets every month during the academic year to ensure coordination between central and college-based IT.
