Statistical Software Site Licenses No.61, 1/14

Information Technology Services (ITS) has an annual SAS and SPSS site license (SAS for Windows or Linux, SPSS for Windows, Linux, or MAC). These software packages provide tools for data management, data retrieval, report writing, file conversion, and statistical analysis.

Eligibility

SAS:
URI full-time faculty, staff, and graduate students may install a copy of the software at no charge.

SPSS:
URI full-time faculty and staff may install a copy of the software at no charge; students need to purchase the SPSS GradPack from:

http://www-01.ibm.com/software/analytics/spss/products/statistics/gradpack

ITS will provide yearly renewal information and updates. The original agreements may be updated as new software libraries are purchased. ITS retains the right to charge a nominal update fee in the future. Presently, no such fee is planned.

In the event that the customer leaves the University or that the agreement between URI and SAS Institute or SPSS Inc. is terminated, distributed versions of the software must be returned or destroyed as specified by SAS Institute and SPSS Inc.

The combinations of operating systems (e.g., Windows Enterprise, Home Premium, Mountain Lion, Mavericks, Red Hat Enterprise, etc.) and product fix packs that are required to run SPSS Statistics Desktop 22.0.0.0 on the supported operating systems are detailed by IBM. See Support Details for more information about specific O/S configurations that require additional fix packs for SPSS to work on your machine.

Minimum Hardware Requirements ALL O/S

Hardware: Intel or AMD x86 processor running at 1 gigahertz (GHz) or higher.
Memory: Minimum: 1 gigabyte (GB) Recommended: 4+ GB RAM
Minimum free drive space: 900MB. If you install more than one help language,
each additional language requires 60-70 MB of disk space.
DVD-ROM drive
Super VGA (800×600) or higher-resolution monitor:
For connecting with an SPSS Server, a network adapter running the TCP/IP network protocol.

Obtaining SAS and SPSS

  1. Fill out the online form. The form contains the conditions for using the product and needs to be completed for each workstation licensed. If the software is to be installed on a local network server, each attached workstation must be licensed separately, in addition to the server device. Make sure all fields are filled in, including the physical location and the serial number of the workstation on which the software will reside.
  2. Print it out first, and then
  3. Click the Submit button
  4. Sign the printed form
  5. Drop the signed paper request in Campus Mail addressed to Christian Vye, 210 Flagg Road, Office 107; alternatively, deliver it to 210 Flagg Road. Be sure to call ahead and make sure that Christian (4-2966) or his graduate assistant (4-2815) will be there to accept the form.

Once we have your signed form, we will approve your request within 2 business days and email you instructions on how to get the software.

Annual Renewal Code:
You will need to apply a renewal code yearly in order to continue using the software. The code is maintained at the SAS and SPSS Intranet address, which you will receive once your form is approved.

ITS maintains a link to on-line documentation for SAS. Manuals can be purchased at the software vendor’s Web-site: http://www.sas.comSPSS documentation is provided on a DVD-ROM and the PDF files can be copied to your computer.
