New Security for Wireless Access

newsletter-wireless-access-iconThe number of Wi-Fi devices on URI’s network has grown exponentially over the past five years. During this time, the University has invested in systems to secure wireless connectivity and automate the authentication process that reserves the URI_Secure network for verified URI students, faculty and staff.

Last summer, a more robust system was deployed that can be expanded seamlessly to accommodate increasing demand. This system has been closely monitored and has been successfully serving about a half of all devices on URI’s wireless network. ITS has decommissioned the legacy system that was more susceptible to failure.

Any wireless device that is not connecting to URI_Secure will have to re-authenticate by clicking on the following link: and select “Students, Staff” or by connecting to URI_Open, browsing the Internet, and following the on-screen instructions. If your devices remain connected to URI_Secure then no further action is needed.

NOTE:  If you have a device that is connected to both the Wired and Wireless network and need to re-authenticate, you must unplug your wired connection before clicking on
