Information Technology Services (ITS) has an annual SAS site license and an SPSS academic site license (SAS for Windows or Linux, SPSS for Windows, Linux, or MAC). These software packages provide tools for data management, data retrieval, report writing, file conversion, and statistical analysis.

Eligibility requirements:

SAS
URI full-time faculty, staff, and graduate students may install a copy of the software at no charge.

SPSS
URI full-time faculty and research/teaching staff may install a copy of the software at no charge. Graduate students are able to install a copy of the latest version of the software with the approval of their Major Professor (or Department Chair). Students registered in a specific class where SPSS is being used can apply for a semester-wise license with the approval of their Instructor.*  Students can also purchase the SPSS GradPack from IBM. Visit IBM on the web to obtain relevant information about the pricing and software options that are available.

Requesting a SAS or SPSS License:

  1. Fill out a license agreement form, which contains all the conditions for using the product. The form needs to be completed for each workstation licensed. That is, if the software is to be installed on a local network server, and a personal laptop then each attached workstation must be licensed separately, in addition to the laptop device.
  2. Log into the page using your SSO id and password (same as used from portal.office.com for MS Office 365, Qualtrics, and others)
  3. Make sure you fill in all fields, including the physical location and the serial number of the workstation on which the software will reside. *Students need to fill in all 3 approver fields: Approver Name, Approver Phone, and Approver Email.
  4. Then, Print out the form. Keep this copy for your records.
  5. Click the Submit button.

Documentation and Getting the Software:

ITS maintains a link to on-line documentation for SAS. Manuals can be purchased at the software vendor’s Web-site: http://www.sas.com. Both SAS and SPSS software and documentation are available for download from our software distribution site. The links to the software distribution site and license codes will be emailed to you after you have submitted the form. You may also check out physical copies of the software from the circulation desk located at the Kingston Campus library.

Annual Renewal Codes:

ITS will provide yearly renewal information and updates. The original agreements may be updated as new software libraries are purchased. ITS retains the right to charge a nominal update fee in the future. Presently, no such fee is planned.

You will need to apply a renewal code yearly in order to continue using the software. The code is maintained at the SAS and SPSS Intranet address, which you will receive when you submit the form.

In the event that the customer leaves the University or that the agreement between URI and SAS Institute or SPSS Inc. is terminated, distributed versions of the software must be returned or destroyed as specified by SAS Institute and SPSS Inc.
