ITS uses the LAMP environment for web hosting. LAMP is a stack of open-source software used to build a viable general purpose web server and stands for:
- Linux (operating system),
- Apache (HTTP server),
- MySQL (database software), and
- PHP (server-side scripting language).
The ITS web hosting service involves the installation and maintenance of web servers in LAMP environment and primarily focuses on web application hosting. It aims to provide security, reliability and reduces risks associated with server down time, poor performance, file corruption, and hacker attacks.
Because the web hosting environments are designed to support multiple applications, including commercial, and/or open source applications and those that are locally developed by departments, all applications are subject to code review and scan. Content and/or application development assistance are not included.
We will contact you after reviewing your request and let you know if it is feasible. We base feasibility on the application support requested and the amount of physical resources needed. If all parties are in agreement and wish to proceed, we will establish a timeline and create an Operational Level Agreement; all parties will be notified by email.
This service is available to URI academic and administrative departments, faculty, staff, and student organizations.
