Rodney Gaines was a visiting professor in 2016-2017 in the Kinesiology Department at the University of Rhode in Kingston, RI.  He has a PhD from Virginia Polytechnic and State University (Virginia Tech), M.S. in Physical Education from Virginia Tech, and a B.S. in Business Finance from Virginia Tech.  Dr. Gaines held dual appointments for much of his career serving as a professor and Head Strength Coach at both Virginia State University and Norfolk State University for 10 years combined.  Dr. Gaines has also experiences in Health club management and corporate fitness/wellness.  He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA), and he holds the Exercise Physiologist Certification (EP-C) through the American College of Sports Medicine.  Dr. Gaines is the Past President of Virginia Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance Association (VAHPERD), and he has served on the NSCA’s Board of Directors from 2010-2013. Dr. Gaines also served 2 terms as the NSCA Virginia State Director and a term as the NSCA MidAtlantic Coordinator.  Dr. Gaines has competed as a natural professional bodybuilder for over 15 years.
