In March 2013, the Faculty Senate passed the University of Rhode Island Open Access Policy, following the example of faculty at a growing number of institutions. The Policy was signed into effect by President Dooley in May.
In adopting the Policy, University of Rhode Island faculty authors have granted the University permission to make their research articles available to the public at no charge. Articles will be made available through URI’s institutional repository, DigitalCommons@URI in tandem with their publication in scholarly journals.
To comply with the policy, simply email a copy of your final author manuscript to firstname.lastname@example.org.
You may waive out of the Policy for individual articles if you wish. See http://uri.libguides.com/oapolicy/waiver.
The full details of the Policy, including background, FAQs, and how to comply are available at http://uri.libguides.com/oapolicy.
The Faculty Senate Library Committee serves in an advisory capacity to the Faculty Senate regarding the implementation and interpretation of the Policy. We are more than happy to answer any questions you may have and to get your feedback on making the implementation of the Policy work as smoothly as possible for faculty.
