Aislyne Calianos, a Junior Marine Affairs & Spanish Major, recently presented on research she conducted as part of her URI/US Maritime Resources Center Fellowship during the summer of 2016. Calianos was invited to present her research at the Connecticut Maritime Association’s (CMA) 2017 annual conference and trade show in a session on “Student Research Presentations on the Business of Shipping”. The Connecticut Maritime Association, Inc. is an association of individuals representing every aspect of shipping and international trade, both ship and cargo interests, and is a not-for-profit organization with an educational mission. Calianos summarized her research in her paper entitled, “Impending Ballast Water Management Regulations: An analysis of their implications for the international shipping community,” which was selected as the first place winner of the Connecticut Maritime Association (CMA) and the CMA Education Foundation’s student research competition. Aislyne received a $2500 award from d’Amico Shipping Company and was the first student from a non-maritime college to win the award.
