As part of his sabbatical, Professor Thompson returned to Indonesia in October and November to further develop educational and research partnerships with the Indonesian Ministry of Marine Affairs, the Provincial governments of West Nusa Tenggura and Aceh, and universities on Java, Lumbok, and Sumatra. While in Aceh, he was invited to give a talk to the full Aceh Parliament and another at Universitas Syiah Kuala.
