Betsey Williams Cottage
A team of URI Master Gardeners has planned and maintained a historic teaching garden at the entrance to Roger Williams Park. All of the plants are historically accurate to the time when Betsey Williams donated the land to the city of Providence for a public park. A family farmhouse, built in 1773, was the home of Betsey Williams, the last surviving descendant of Roger Williams, founder of Rhode Island. It is a garden of perennial plants and herbs grown in late 1700’s for cooking.
