Prescott Farm Period Gardens

2009 West Main Road | Middletown, RI 02842

In 2005, URI/Master Gardeners in partnership with the Newport Restoration Foundation (NRF) began a journey through time that has become a very exciting Master Gardener project. Following extensive research, the gardeners created an authentic 18th century kitchen garden and surrounded it with lovely colonial flower beds. They renovated a colonial revival herb garden which now contains more than 50 varieties of herb for culinary, medicinal and household use. Recent additions are the hummingbird and bee garden using colonial and native plants and an area demonstrating the Three Sisters gardening concept.

Weekly soil testing and answers to gardening questions are provided to the public from April to October. We aim to have a brief educational lesson each week for the volunteers by the fellow group members. The produce, herbs and flowers that are grown are donated to a local woman’s shelter.

Prescott Farm is located on the Middletown /Portsmouth line on Aquidneck Island.
