Festivals Spring 2017
April 1 -2, 2017 The URI Music Department and The Wheeler School present the 2017 University of Rhode Island Guitar Festival, directed by URI Artist/Teacher Adam Levin. Activities include concerts and masterclasses by virtuoso classical guitarists, special topics lectures, ensemble workshops for New England guitar ensembles and an open mic for participating students.
Summer Camps 2017 Designed for students grade 3 – 12, the Music Department offers three summer camps. Requirements and eligibility vary by camp, so be sure to read carefully.
July 10 – 15, 2017 String Camp 2017 , Artistic Director Emily Chen. Join us for a week of fun music making! This full day string camp is open to all students of bowed string instruments from grades 3-12 and will offer a variety of high quality music courses, including string orchestra, small chamber ensembles, music history and theory classes, interactive workshops, evening concerts and activities, and guest performances.
July 30 – August 5, 2017 Chamber Music Intensive 2017, Allison Lacasse, Artistic Director. Join URI Faculty & Guest Artists for a week of woodwind, brass, and percussion chamber music! This unique and intimate camp is an opportunity to perform solo repertoire with an accompanist and chamber music with new friends.
July 23 – 29 The Jazz Camp at Newport Sponsored by Salve Regina and the University of Rhode Island, the Jazz Camp at Newport is an exciting opportunity for students ages 14-18 to meet new people, learn from experienced music professors and discover the depths of their talent during a weeklong series of classes, rehearsals and more.
