Michele Holt teaches music education at the University of Rhode Island and serves as the Coordinator of Music Education for the Department of Music. She is also the executive director for the Massachusetts Music Educators Association and the music director for the Junior Providence Singers, a high school honors chorus that is part of the educational outreach of the Providence Singers.
Holt is a frequent clinician and guest conductor at All-State and Regional Music Festivals and has led the United States Youth Chorale throughout Europe. In her current position as executive director of the Massachusetts Music Educators Association, Michele oversees music activities for students as well as professional development for the music teachers of Massachusetts.
Holt’s recent publication, The School Choral Program, co-edited with James Jordan of Westminster Choir College and published by GIA, has been a successful contribution to the field of secondary music education. Holt has also been a contributing author to the third edition of Teaching Music Through Performance in Choir which was published by GIA 2009.
Holt is currently the past national president of the American Choral Directors Association and continues to serve on conference planning committees both nationally and in the Eastern Division. For the past twelve years, she has served as program coordinator for Music Education and director of choral activities at Providence College.
During the summers, you can find her sailing on Narragansett Bay with her husband, Barry, and playing with her grandchildren, Grace and Dylan.
