Nutrition in Underserved Populations

CELS’ Community Nutrition Education Programs – EFNEP and SNAP-Ed – serve families on limited incomes (and associated schools and agencies) with programming to improve nutrition and overall health. Program participants receive knowledge and skills to help better manage resources, secure adequate nutrition, and live an affordable, active lifestyle. Both EFNEP and SNAP-Ed utilize interactive, research-based teaching methods and evaluation tools. EFNEP focuses on families with young children who reside within RI core cities, while SNAP-Ed serves all eligible SNAP recipients throughout the state. In FY’10, 1,867 and 13,880 people participated in direct programming by EFNEP and SNAP-Ed respectively.
