URI 101 Students Learn Peace and Nonviolence

Introducing nearly 200 students to the big ideas of peace and nonviolence, the Center oriented 101 classes about academic courses and nonviolence training offered to the URI campus. Students were eager to get involved and curious to learn more about declaring a minor in nonviolence and peace studies and participating in the annual International Nonviolence Summer Institute to become a certified nonviolence trainer and workshop facilitator. Students showed a keen interest in learning how to address interpersonal conflict through peaceful methods. Center staff included a diverse team perspectives of Thupten Tendhar, Roberta Opara, Christian Escobar and Paul Bueno de Mesquita, who were enthusiastically received by the URI 101 Instructors and classes, followed by positive feedback and notes of appreciation regarding class visits.

We are grateful to Richard Song, Asst. Dir of New Student Programs, URI 101 Coordinator, for making this opportunity possible. Also thanks to participating instructors, professors, administrators and advisors: Cheryl Trudell, Ed Bozzi, Michaela Delaney, Becky Desalvo, Peggy Frazier, Susand Thomas, Sokhoeun Khoy, Rachel Littlefield, Ellora Mohanty, Alycia Mosley Austin, Nancy Sisson, Val Trainor, Susan Unger and Tina Yetman.
