Candlelight Vigil Honored Victims of Violence on URI Peace Day 2017

Over 60 people gathered at the Quad the evening of URI Peace Day to honor victims who had given their lives in the name of peace. Each person held a candle to add a little light to the darkness. Center Director Paul Bueno de Mesquita opened the Vigil. Members of the circle read stanzas of Jane Goodall’s “Pray for Peace,” followed by Rachel Dunham’s words of hope and encouragement to victims of sexual abuse.

Seven Tibetan Monks who are on campus this week constructing a Compassion Mandala chanted prayers. Graduate student Mila Tsikhotskiy talked about being a part of the very first URI Day of Peace nine years ago. The evening closed with singing “This Little Light of Mine.”
