Are you interested in issues of social justice and human rights? Would you like to join a team of nonviolence trainers from URI and visit a foreign country as part of an international nonviolence education project? Then an Interdisciplinary Minor in Nonviolence & Peace Studies is the program for you! URI students may declare a Minor in Nonviolence & Peace Studies by completing the one-page Declaration of Minor and taking 18 credits of courses related to nonviolence & peace studies. This form is available from your academic Dean’s office.
Foundations
NVP200 – Introduction Nonviolence & Peace Studies Colloquium. (1 credit) This course gives an overview of work in this field, with emphasis on work by members of the URI community, and provides a common experience for students in the Minor.
PSY478 – Special Topics: Nonviolent Conflict Resolution (3 credits) This course is an intensive study of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s nonviolent philosophy, principles, and steps presented in an interactive workshop model. There is an opportunity to earn Level I certification as a nonviolence trainer.
