The URI team of 6 students has been bringing letters and sounds and words to the Kindergarten children of Robertson School in Central Falls, RI. Children have spent time every Friday reading books and playing games to build their skill in getting ready to read as they prepare to move into first grade in the fall.
The program has been a great success and children are eager to meet with the URI students and spend time listening to stories and learning a few new words.
The team is: Sebastian Wilson, Devon Jervis, Erin Sheehan, Olivia O’Connor, Kendra Racine, and Jenn Pietrantonio. Kay Bueno de Mesquita from the URI College of Education coordinates the program along with the Reading Specialist Heather Clark.
