FAQ Summer InstituteThe following information is for International Nonviolence Summer Institute Participants:


Do we have access to a Library & Internet?

All participants will have access to the library. Computers and Internet access will be available for your use as a guest on campus at the workshop site as well as in the Residence Hall. You are welcome to bring your personal laptop computers.

What kind of Health Services are available?
Unfortunately, the URI Student Health Services are closed during the summer months. Should medical treatment be necessary due to accident, injury or illness, the local community offers convenient options for a Walk-In Clinic and a 24 hour pharmacy in nearby Wakefield.

Where is the Nearest Grocery Store?
There is a CVS drug store (open 8:00AM-9:00PM) and Cumberland Farms Convenience Store (open 5:00AM-12:00AM) near campus.There are also full service grocery stores about  5 miles away. Local bus service is available.

What Transportation is available? 
If you are interested in visiting Providence, Wakefield, or Narragansett Beach and its surroundings the best option is to take the RIPTA Bus #66.

Bus to Newport: Newport is a great option to visit on the weekend. It is just 40 minutes away and you can get there taking the bus #64. For a schedule, you can visit:

If you want to go to Boston or you can take the RIPTA Bus # 66 at the Circle of the Memorial Union to go to Providence and then take a Commuter to Boston. The University is not responsible for organizing tour trips. If you are interested, we can recommend a one-day trip you could you coordinate it with other participants.

In case you decide to visit these places please be aware of the bus schedule coming to and from URI to avoid being stranded. The taxi service to and from URI is very expensive.
