Pedagogy of Peace in Formal Education

The Center for Nonviolence and Peace Studies is excited to host Dr. Larisa Kasumagić-Kafedžić for a special lecture titled Pedagogy of Peace in Formal Education on Friday, March 31, 2023. This lecture will explore the notions of peace pedagogy within the general field of comparative education. A particular emphasis will be placed on how and why of peace teaching in formal education contexts by revising some key contributions underpinning peace pedagogy that can be integrated into interdisciplinary subject areas.
Dr. Larisa Kasumagić-Kafedžić is a Fulbright Visiting Scholar Fellow at Cornell University. She holds an MPS in International Development and Education from Cornell University and a Ph.D. in English Language Pedagogy and Intercultural Education from Sarajevo University. She is also a certified Nonviolence Trainer from URI Center for Nonviolence and Peace Studies. Larisa Kasumagić- Kafedžić teaches at the University of Sarajevo’s Department of English Language and Literature in the Faculty of Philosophy. Her research interests are intercultural education, peace pedagogy, language education, teacher training, reflective pedagogies, and action research in teacher development. She is also the founder and president of the Peace Education Hub, established at the University of Sarajevo in early 2020.
