Dr. Barbara Wolfe joined the College of Nursing in June 2016. She was previously the Associate Dean for Research at the William F. Connell School of Nursing at Boston College and held a faculty appointment in the Department of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Dr. Wolfe is known for her work with women with eating disorders. Her research, which has been funded by the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), focuses on the relationship between biological correlates of clinical symptoms and the implications for intervention and relapse prevention. She has widely disseminated this work through publications and national and international presentations.
Dean Wolfe is a member of the American Academy of Nursing, the Eating Disorder Research Society, and Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society for Nursing. She served as President of the American Psychiatric Nurses Association from 2003-2004 and served on numerous national committees including the American Psychiatric Association’s Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM-5) Eating Disorders Workgroup and as a former chair of the National Institutes of Health (NIH Nursing and Related Clinical Sciences Study Section. She is currently a member of the editorial boards for the Journal of the American Psychiatric Nurses Association and the International Journal of Eating Disorders.
Dr. Wolfe has received many awards throughout her career. This includes the prestigious Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) Executive Nurse Fellowship and being named Psychiatric Nurse of the Year by the American Psychiatric Nurses Association. Her accomplishments encompass more than 30 years of experience in clinical, research, and academic nursing.
