How to Take Notes in Your Browser

Laptops, tablets, smartphones — these are all pieces of technology we have come to know and use on a consistent basis. If you are enrolled in an online course, then you are likely using one or more of these technologies often. There may be times when you are taking notes for your online course and may not have access to a pen and paper. Did you know you can take notes using your browser (e.g. Chrome, Firefox, Safari)?

Type the following into the address bar:

data:text/html, html contenteditable;

Hit enter, and your browser should open to a blank tab.

Click the black space and type your notes!

You can save the page by saving your notes as an HTML webpage. Do this by either right clicking (PC) or selecting “File” (Mac) then select “Save Page As” and save it as a web page with the .html extension.

When you open up the file, it will pop back up into your browser. You may not use this trick all of the time but it could work great in a pinch! You can even use this on your phone!
