Summer 2016

STUDENT amy 800

AMY RUMANOWSKI ’18 DOESN’T HOLD BACK. “I’m not here to work and get a paycheck,” she says. “I want to experience everything life has to offer.” Since arriving at URI, she has taken that philosophy to heart, actively involved in a number of professional and student organizations and community service projects––including a mission trip to Nicaragua and study abroad in Spain––and is a passionate advocate for naloxone education and healthcare legislation. “As a naïve freshman, I didn’t realize how many paths you could take as a pharmacist,” she says. “My professors have taught me how many other opportunities are available.”

Those lessons have inspired her to aim high—the 2016 Thomas M. Ryan Scholarship recipient has her mind set on a rotation with the U.S. Public Health Service or Navy Pharmacy in Summer 2017. Her positivity and drive are just two reasons she was a Robert Rainville Student Leadership Award finalist this semester. “It has become second nature for me to stand up in front of a group and share my passion with others,” she says. “My experiences at URI have proven to me that I can make a difference in this world, large or small.”
