CLASSES ARE OPEN TO ALL. Complete a full certificate program or take a class to improve your skills. Our programs offers a variety of classes, one on one time with instructors, project based assignments, “production” deadlines ~ all as you experience learning in a fast-paced design/production atmosphere. Instructors use Adobe Creative Suite 6 on our computers and as a student you can purchase this program at a discounted rate.
Participants who seek to earn a certificate will complete a total of five or six course sequence with 144 hours of instruction. If participants can provide evidence of prior learning for any of these classes, then we will evaluate it for credit towards the completion of the specific certificate program. Our certificate programs can be completed within 9 months to one year. Signed program certificates will be issued when a participant meets all program requirements, including a capstone project. Possible careers include: graphic design, advertising, web design, web production, social media management and other communication-related occupations.
Classes cost $450 for a six week class or $900 for a twelve week class.
Total cost for each certificate $3,600.

Design for Print Certificate
Develop the skills to design & produce print media using Adobe Creative Suite 6 including Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. Learn the techniques of layout/design by creating and applying custom graphics, text and images. Special attention is focused on file management, color control, image resolution, type selection/formatting, and delivery of print-ready files. This certificate program provides instruction on the proper use of type, color and images to create professional graphics/publications utilizing the principles of good print design. Classes needed to complete this certificate: Photoshop I & II, Illustrator I & II, InDesign and Photo Basics.
Design for Web Certificate
Learn the techniques of Web site design, including design principals for the Web, HTML, CSS (cascading style sheets), and Search Engine Optimization (SEO). Students will use the Adobe Creative Suite 6, including Photoshop and Dreamweaver, to build a variety of web sites. Take a project from concept to completion using industry standard tools and ensure your site’s consistent performance and visual style across various platforms, browsers, devices, and screen sizes. Use advanced CSS to create scalable, accessible sites that conform to the latest professional Web Standards with HTML5, CSS3, and responsive web design for multi-device support. Explore visual, functional and aesthetic considerations in designing web sites and use SEO and Social Media/Networking to ensure that people looking for those sites can find them online. Classes needed to complete this certificate: Photoshop I, Web Design I & II, Web Marketing, Web Mobile.
Beau Jones – Beau is a 30 year veteran in marketing and communications, having held positions as a Branding / Marketing Consultant, Art Director and for over 20 years, President of an advertising and graphics production company. In addition, Beau has worked as a commercial photographer and imaging professional for clients throughout New England, including hospitals, colleges and companies in a variety of industries. During the course of his career he has been a speaker and educator for a multitude of groups and organizations. He has been an instructor with URI’s Multimedia program for the past 12 years. He currently serves as Project Director and Image Specialist for Onochoko, a creative studio in Warren, RI.
Jeremy Girard – Jeremy has been designing for the Web or screen since the late 1990s and has worked with clients large and small, including PepsiCo, Universal Studios, Honey Dew Donuts, The United Way of Rhode Island, and many more. In addition to his position with URI, Jeremy is the Director of Marketing for Envision Technology Advisors, where he also leads the company’s website design and development services. Jeremy is a regular contributor to leading industry publications, a speaker at various events, and he maintains a personal website and popular blog at www.pumpkin-king.com.
Mike Ryan – Mike started his career at advertising agencies including RDW, Trainor Associates and Leonard Monahan. He began creating websites as a hobby in 1994, and in ’96 created his own web design firm, NewMedia Advantage. This merged with Envision Technology Advisors in 2001, where he managed an ever-growing web team until 2011. Since 2012, Mike has been acting as publisher (and webmaster) of the RI-based arts and entertainment paper Motif Magazine. He continues to consult on web development projects and speak at seminars nationwide on online marketing and WordPress related topics. These classes/programs are self-funding. We require a minimum of 5 registered students for classes to run; 16 is the maximum number accepted. Students need to meet all program requirements including a capstone project to be eligible to receive the program certificate. Full payment for a course is expected at the time of registration. If you decide to drop a class after the first session, you will receive a 75% refund. No refunds will be granted after the first week of classes.
