Who are we? Like you, we are adult students at CCE. We know what it’s like to begin college or to return to college while working, being a parent, and managing a home. It can be a challenging time – it can seem risky, frightening and wonderful, all at the same time. Sometimes it can be terrific and sometimes it can be very tough. We understand how classes and exams can cause anxiety, stress and self-doubt but there is help available.
Peer Mentors can help you with:
Time management and how to juggle all your life and course demands,
Overcoming test anxiety,
Navigating Sakai and e-Campus
Communicating with professors and classmates
Improving listening and note-taking skills
Finding campus resources
Other issues that can impact your success
Peer Mentors also have information on the following resources:
Who to speak with regarding financial aid and scholarships
Help with computer questions
Finding a tutor
Please feel free to contact us with any questions – if we do not know the answers, we will know who to ask.
We are trained as Peer Mentors to provide you with information and support to help ensure this will be one of the best times of your life. I am a sophomore majoring in Nursing. My goal as a Peer Mentor is to help other students coping with life obstacles while going to school, and provide them with all the information they need in order to succeed in college.
I’m in my junior year with a major in Psychology. I cannot call myself a traditional student; I think “contemporary student” is a better fit for me. People my age are returning back to school, acquiring the education they were unable to obtain due to life’s unforeseen circumstances. I’m looking forward to being a Peer Mentor and hope I can be of some service in making the transition back to school as easy as possible.
Hey, My name is Kristina Dunham. I am a senior Psychology major. I was a transfer student from CCRI and I have to say my transition and time at the URI providence campus has been great! As a new peer mentor I hope to help new and current students transition easier into their college career. This is a wonderful time and it’s a lot better with some extra guidance and support.
I am a junior majoring in Psychology. My goal as a Peer Mentor is to provide my fellow students with a support system that they can rely on when school gets the best of them. “It is literally true that you can succeed best and quickest by helping others to succeed.”
