Research

Emmanuel’s research identifies culturally-informed risk and protective factors for the development and maintenance of co-morbid trauma-related psychopathology (e.g., depression and posttraumatic stress disorder) and alcohol use in racially marginalized communities, including the roles of racial stressors, ethnic identity, and religious coping. Emmanuel was awarded an F31 from the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism to use ecological momentary assessment to examine the real-time associations among depression, racial stress and symptoms, and alcohol use in Black adults in the community.
