Jasmine Jennings(right) and Sarah Thornton of the women’s outdoor track & field team competed in the hammer throw at the 2008 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship at Drake University. Jennings, who became the first URI student-athlete to win an NCAA Regional title, earned an automatic qualifier after winning the regional championship on May 31 at Florida State with a throw of 205-06. She finished 26th at the national championship meet. Thornton, who finished eighth at the NCAA East Regional, earned an at-large invitation into the field of the national championship meet. She did not register an official mark, fouling on each of her attempts. It was the first trip to the NCAA Championship for both student-athletes.
